Lakme Absolute Gel Stylist Nail Poliosh in Daisy Blue: Review, Price and NOTD

13.5.19 2 Comments
Totally in the blue phase these days.. so much so that I even bought blue curtains for the summer.  Wherever I go these days, my eyes are just looking for hues from navy blue to powder blue to even periwinkles. Anyway...jumping straight into the review...
Following my heart I bought this DAISY BLUE nail paint from Lakme Absolute Gel Stylist range although I noticed later I had same shade from another brand already in my nail polish collection. Meh!

  Price/Quantity : 300/ 15 ml

 My Quick 2 Cents:
  • The shade is a beautiful sky blue..perfect for summer!
  • Brush is broad and fluffy.
  • Quite a lot of quantity.
  • Dries up fast thus saving the smudge.
  • Gives a glossy finish.
  • Stayed chip free for more than a week.
  • Is available at 20-30% discount on some or the other online shopping portal all the time.
Over All Thoughts
It gets a 5 on 5 from me!

Nail Paints To Try This Christmas Beyond Red: Peacock Blue and Royal Purple: Review, Swatches, NOTD

21.12.16 5 Comments
When everyone is going gaga about dilli ki sardi, let me confess I don't really like winter. Winter was good when I was in college and the food department was mom's job. Winter back then meant studying in warm quilts, having coffee and hot snacks sitting in the sun in college, all covered going for evening walk with my bestie and mom serving delicious hot food right infront me.Now I'm a mom..leave alone work, these days getting out of the bed in the morning seems like a warfare preparation.
Thus, no big winter chill fan, I enjoy the weather for it makes us bring out the brightest clothes and the deepest makeup out...WITHOUT hesitation. Lately, I've been going all deep and bold with my lips and nails since I end up wearing so much black in winters somehow or the other that a pop of colour is much needed. Often Christmas is synonymous with Red colour,be it the attire or makeup. But these nail paints from Revlon will make one come out of the box and try blues, greens and purples for the very mentioned pop!!!
 Brand Claims:
Revlon Nail Enamel with Chip Defiant Formula for flawlessly smooth, gorgeous color. Streak-free flawless application.
Special features :
  • Provides a protective fast drying finishing coat to nail enamel.
  • Looks in color, offering superior shine and chip resistance for up to 9 days.
  • Formaldehyde & Toluene free- less irritating.
  • No bubbles, no streaks, no brush marks.
  • Unique double barrel brush for smooth, even and precise application.
  • Gel-like shine
  • Gorgeously smooth, chip-resistant nail color.
How to use product
  • Apply favorite Revlon Base coat.

  • Apply two coats of Revlon nail enamel and let dry.

  • Apply favorite Revlon Top coat
 Price/Quantity: INR 190/8ml

Shades
Revlon nail enamel comes in a variety of shades. The shades I picked up are Peacock Blue and Royal Purple
Peacock Blue

I really like the how Revlon names their nail paints. They try to stick to the basics and be true to colour. Peacock Blue is just what the name says,it is a beautiful blend of green and blue though green is somewhat more pronounced than blue. Because it has a blend of two colours ,it goes on really well on an array of colours. It has minuscule blue glitter which gives it a beautiful metallic sheen. The polish is loaded with pigments and two coats of it render a glossy opaque finish. The staying power is good. Chipping of tips starts after four to five days depending on how much work your hand goes through. The gloss remains intact and like other nail varnishes it doesn't go
straight flat soon.
What I dislike is that it takes a comparatively longer time to dry and being a mom of two I find sitting pretty and drying my nail paint a sheer luxury ;) Secondly, when you try to take it off it bleeds REALLY bad and spreads all over your fingers. So keep tons of remover and cotton handy for the same!!

 Royal Purple

To begin with , Royal Purple was the shade I was more excited to wear and because I got this, I paired it up with Peacock Blue to get two. The shade in the bottle is what I love more than that on the nails. Its a more pleasant purple..more vibrant even though it is deep. Let me admit, I'm not really pleased with this pick because firstly it is too sheer  and the effect is that in order to pack pigments onto your nail you have to apply several coats of it and thus you go on turning a beautiful purple to a patchy deep purple.  It takes longer to dry than Peacock Blue which is a dud thing. Even multiple coats do not provide a seamless opaque finish and despite  the multiple coats the chipping starts the third day.The glossiness also goes off in two-three days. All in all more  cons than pros!

That's all folks.. :)

Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in Porcelain Party 102 : Review, Price Swatches and NOTD

15.9.16 0 Comments

Now that Fall is just around the corner, I'm trying to use my spring stuff a bit before it gets pushed back in the stash even though I admit that this was perhaps the first year when my spring was too fall inspired (deep lip shades in summers were a strict no-no earlier...but now? Baaaahhhhhh!!!!) This summer I wore everything from bold lips to deep nails, I dunno just craved for all things bold and the consequence was..the summery stuff sat pretty waiting for its turn to be flaunted.
Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in Porcelain Party was one such summery beachy buy. There's something about white nail paints that reminds me of beaches and washed out denims and just for that cool breeze-feel I got myself a white nail paint after aaaaaaages...!!

What It Is :
With trendy, super stylish shades, these nail colors add oodles of attitude to your overall look. Presenting 40 attractive shades, the Maybelline Color Show Range let’s you mix, match and experiment with color!

Benefits:
Nail colors have a gel-based formula for increased staying power
• Is chip-resistant and comes with an easy-flow brush
• Available in 40 different shades

How To Use/Apply:
Step 1. Apply a clear base coat to help prevent your nails from yellowing and to extend the life of your nail polish color.
Step 2. Brush one coat of lacquer from the center of your nail starting from the base to the tip.
Step 3. For the cleanest look, leave a small space at the base of the nail, then apply polish to the rest of the nail.

Price: INR 110/6ml (initially 75/-)

Packaging:
It comes in a regular round, glass, Color Show bottle with the shade name and number on the cap. The bottle is nice, cute and travel friendly. However, I'm not a big fan of the brush. The brush is responsible for its streaky application (and the formula could be as well). I've noticed its not with every Color Show nail polish. The other shades I own from the same range have a decent brush too (I just love the brush of Lakme Gel Stylist nail paints though, they are fluffy enough to paint your nail in just one coat...aaahh)

Texture:
The texture is nothing to boast about. I didn't like it at all.You don't get nice, smooth and opaque finish even in 2-3 coats. God knows how I managed to take decent pics in which I have 3 coats plus an additional touch up one finished with a top coat. Though it dries fast, It is very streaky..Period!

Shade:
THIS was the reason why I gave it a shot. I have been wanting to try a China Glaze White Out/White On White, Sally Hansen White On, O.P.I Alpine Snow/Non-Stop White etc. but when I came across this in a store I though let's try a budget version just to see how white looks on me..I have no problem with the shade though but the Nail polish is disappointing.

Staying Power:
Another disappointment!! Even after putting so much effort to get a clean finish..Porcelain Party gets scratchy and dirty on the very third day. It looks so tacky that you wouldn't have it on even if it doesn't start chipping..and no my hands weren't put to much labour..still!!

My Take:
I would not recommend Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in Porcelain Party even though the white is a nice white simply because of the its finish and longevity as discussed above.
Sad??? No, I'll give the ones in my wishlist a try now :D

NYX Advanced Salon Formula Nail Polish in Purple Glitter: Review, Price, Swatches and NOTD

8.9.16 4 Comments

Though they are calling it Nail Polish..Its a Glitter Top Coat
to begin with..
When Mr.Husband gets you a beautiful purple saree (follow me on Instagram to get a glimpse) and your love for both the saree and the colour in particular is obvious, you just wanna pair it up with a similar nail paint..yeah?
Now I'm not particularly a big fan of having the galaxy on my finger tips (okay nails), I'm just contented with clear top coats (except glittery ones on black nail polish) But I didn't want to stay a glitter-virgin .. so this beauty came to my experience!

NYX Advanced Salon Formula Nail Polish in Purple Glitter comes in a huge, glass, square bottle of 15ml. It has all the necessary details like the shade name, price, manufacturing and ingredients list on the bottle and cap itself. It has a long, thick, synthetic brush that applies PERFECTLY..Love the brush! Love the whole bottle for that matter..!!

NYX Advanced Salon Formula Nail Polish in Purple Glitter
has an almost transparent purple gel base loaded with pink and purple shimmers. Since the shimmers aren't chunky, you don't really have to look for an occasion to wear it on. In the bottle,
the product appears quite opaque but it's actually translucent and needs a coloured base. In the swatches, I'm wearing it on a purple nail polish..!
What I don't like about this is that it takes hours to dry..like half an hour is not gone anywhere!!
NYX??? Are you kidding me? Today's woman is a goddess of multitasking and you think we have the luxury to sit blowing our nails and fluttering our lashes for half an hour to get it dry and avoid smudging?? Seriously..??
But once it sets,it solidifies your nail polish too..Longevity wise this is the best I've laid my hands on.. The shimmer and shine starts to fade the fifth or sixth day perhaps but the nail polish is good to go for more than a week..easily!!
So guys if you have the patience (AND the luxury to blow your nails and flutter your lashes and) to sit while it dries..
DO NOT miss this..!!

Price: INR 350/ 15ml

P.S. Now I want a purple lipstick too.
Pour in your suggestions in the comments below and no Tom Ford for a Budget Belleza plz :P :D ;)

Lakme Gel Stylist Nail Polish in Tomato Tango : Review, Price, Swatches and NOTD

29.5.16 5 Comments
Before I begin with my experience of this nail paint, lemme tell you just HOW I wish that all these gel nail paints and 'twist-n-remove' kinda nail polish removers had launched back when I got married.

Oh boy! Half of my honeymoon was spent in keeping the nail paint looking chip free and fresh..lol

Getting back to the product in question.. "I don't like a true red nail varnish" said no woman ever!! I've always had one in my kitty..AAAALLLWAAAYYSSSSS..!!!

I was so intrigued to see the celebrities wearing one on their broad based toes and used to wonder how come everyone has a broad nail bed and not me? Do they get it done going under the knife..haha female mind I tell you!!

Anyway.. long story short..I got this Lakme Absolute Gel Stylist nail paint in Tomato Tango in my recent haul and I love it!!

Price: INR 400/ 15ml (you can get it online here)

Lakme Absolute Gel Stylist nail paint in Tomato Tango is a gorgeous warm red..very classy..very sexy!! It brightens up my hands and hides minor flaws!
LOVE!!!
The brush is broad and fluffy,I can get my nail painted in just one dip, the second one is only for precision.
The formula is thick and pigmented..2 coats and you're done!

The nail paint imparts a super glossy finish like you have a heavy duty top coat over it.
The best thing is drying up between coats isn't a hassle. I do my left hand first and then the right and then I return to left for a second coat and it was all dry.. BEAT THAT! It didn't take more than 20sec to dry on me.
The staying power was a lil' bummer! I had high expectations from a GEL nailpaint. Even though the gloss stayed for almost a week, the third day saw tip wear off which went on to chip further :(
If I add a few more bucks, I can get an OPI...or for that matter why wouldn't I buy a Maybelline Colorshow at the fraction of a price if the staying power is this?

Elf Mini Nail Polish in Nude:Price,Review,Swatches and NOTD

6.8.15 4 Comments
I love earthy tones on my lips and nails and if I am to churn out my favourite nail paints..Nudes would win hands down! The nail paint in question today was actually a part of the Elf Necessary Nails Collection which had in all 15 shades for $15..easy Maths eh? The one on my nails is in the shade Nude!

I love Nude nail polishes on my hand. They suit every outfit, look classy and at times if I may say..save you from going over matchy matchy. Thus this Flesh-toned Nude shade was a love at first sight..it still is!!
The application part didn't seem a task. It gives absolutely opaque finish in two coats. It dries up pretty fast,I was good to go in 10 min. BUT BUT BUT...the brush is streaky! Beware!

It is by far one of the most flattering nude nail paint that I have ever tried besides Maybelline's Bale Classico.
Now that you have heard good things about it,lets tell you the bad! It sucks at staying power (sorry for the lingo, but nothing else would describe it better) Three coats of it could not last for a day and NO I didn't do the dishes!! So much so that if I was the scratching-the-chipped-nail-paint kinda person,I wouldn't even have required a polish remover.Yeah..that bad!! A top-coat would be its oxygen,it won't last without that!

Crux of the Matter:
  • Lovely flesh-toned Nude shade
  • Suits our brown skin well
  • Goes well with whatever you wear
  • Dries quickly
  • Affordable
  • Streaky brush
  • Bad staying power
  • Needs a top-coat
  • Not available in India

Price Vs.Quantity: INR 60/ 5ml

Packaging:

Olive Drab comes in regular Street wear nail paints packaging of tiny squarish bottles. The brush is good enough for 60/- nail paint!

Shade:Olive Drab

The shade Olive Drab is a lime-green with lots of yellow in it. I was yet to try yellow (Yusss I'm wary of it) and thought this would be a baby step into the shade. Olive Drab screams monsoons and is yet not in-your-eye kinda bright... The shade in short was the only reason I picked it (although I seriously dont remember when I picked it).

Opacity:
Olive Drab is somewhere in between semi opaque to sheer. It needs at least 2coats to show up well and 3 coats give  you the purrrrfect lime-green/yellow colour with a non streaky finish!

Wrap up:
  • Love the lime-green shade.
  • Opaque finish in two coats.
  • Brush performs well.
  • Super Cheap.
  • Offers a great variety of shades.
  • Stays put for a good 3-4 days without chipping.(depends on your chores)
  • Doesn't take forever to dry.
  • The shine subsides the very next day :(
