Avon Nourishing Cream with Almond Oil: Review

31.1.14 8 Comments
Winters and dry skin go hand in hand and this is the season when my skin screams for hydrating creams and moisturizers. The one currently in use is the Avon Nourishing Cream

Company Claims and Directions to Use:

Ingredients:
Price/Quantity: INR 109 /50gm

My Take:
Being dry skinned,I'm always on a look out for budget friendly moisturisers and face creams to make myself feel hydrated enough. This time I gave this one a try.

Avon Nourishing Cream with Almond Oil comes in a tube packaging, just like their Avon Fairness Cream. Easy,non-fussy and can be carried anywhere along.

It is milky white in colour and has a smooth texture. It works well as a moisturiser. Since it is light on skin,it gets absorbed without much effort. Being light enough,it does not leave the skin greasy. It has a floral fragrance that is mild enough to be called pleasant. The only issue is that though it claims to have almond oil, I didn't find it moisturising enough for my dry skin,I often notice a need of reapplication after 3-4 hours. Also, since it is a moisturising cream one cannot expect it to give a brightening effect. So in case you are fond of brightening creams or the ones which provide some amount of coverage like me...you will need something above this before leaving the house.

My Likes:
1. Feels very light on skin.
2. Moisturises well (only if you are not super dry)
3. Gets easily absorbed.
4. Mild floral fragrance.
5. Travel friendly.
6. Budget friendly.
7. Non-greasy.
8. Just a pea-size is enough.

My Dislikes:
Besides being a lover of brightening creams, the only issue I have against Avon Nourishing Cream with Almond Oil is that I need a bit more moisturisation than what it provides.

Last Word: Cheap,non-greasy,travel friendly,moisturising cream!!!

Repurchase: Can't say,I'm loving Lotus Herbals Microemulsion as well!

Use twice a day on a cleansed face and neck. Apply a small amount all over face and massage gently in circular motion.

Packaging:
Olay Natural White All In One Fairness Day Cream comes in a sleek plastic white tube. Very practical, nothing fancy!

My Take:
Just when I was through with my Avon Fairness Cream, and the rep told me there was still time for another tube to arrive. I gave Olay Natural White All In One Fairness Day Cream a try. The cream is soft beige in colour and has a mild floral fragrance. It is very moisturising yet light on skin. But I don't see it as a fairness cream (read Brightening).. The beige colour gave me an wrong impression of slight coverage which it obviously does not give.

Note: The hand appears fairer due to lighting issues
Though it claims to give UV protection but it has no mention of the SPF. Even being dry skinned I cannot imagine myself wearing this cream in summers. Its way to hydrating in hot months. If you are oily skinned or matte face lover...wait till its winter. Its good as a moisturiser but does not fair well as a day cream (no brightening effect).

My Likes:
1. Convenient packaging.
2. Mild floral fragrance.
3. Moisturising/hydrating.
4. Light on skin.
5. Pocket-friendly.
6. Gets absorbed easily.
7. Did not break me out.

My Dislikes:
1. Has no brightening effect.
2. Doesn't mention the SPF.
3. Doesn't reduce dark spots as it claims.
4. Will not make you fair.
5. Might come out greasy on oily skin.
6. Loaded with chemicals.
7. Doesn't mattify.

Last Word:
Olay Natural White All In One Fairness Day Cream fares well as a moisturiser but as a day cream I don't like it.I prefer my day creams to have a little brightening effect if not slight coverage. Waiting for winters to finish it up!

Repurchase:
No!!!!

Are you Summer Ready?

2.4.13 14 Comments
With Summers knocking at the door, there is something as important as the spring cleaning itself..yes and that is..preparing your skin for the summer heat.
Before you knew it, summer was here. .The time to prepare is now. Here's how:
Step 1: Exfoliate
One of the best ways to prepare your skin for summer is with gentle exfoliation. This process gets rid of dead, dry skin cells, allowing your body to ‘shed’ its winter layer and prepare healthy skin for the start of a new season. Regular exfoliation can be a part of a healthy skin regimen no matter the season; as long as your skin is not sensitive, exfoliation can help you achieve smooth, healthy-looking skin that makes you look more glowing and youthful. The Indian market is flooded with scrubs of all price ranges and to suit all skin types..get one or DIY one!

Step 2: Cleanser
There are several alternatives to soap and water cleansing - facial cleansers which have been developed to deal with cleansing different skin types, and to avoid drying the skin as traditional bar soaps tended to do. These maybe in any form such as creams, milks, liquids, foams, oils, gels and lotions.  In summers,I personally try to avoid creamy, foaming cleansers and use gel cleansers instead.

Step 3: Toner
Refreshing and cooling your skin, toners and astringents quickly evaporate after being applied with cotton wool. They can also remove excess oil from the surface layers of your skin. Those with dry and sensitive skins should avoid these products, as they can be too drying. Generally, if the product stings your face, move onto a gentler foundation or weaken it by adding a few drops of distilled water. Rose water makes a refreshing spray, especially in the dryness of air-conditioned rooms. Since I have a dry skin and it turns combi in summers,I generally don't overdo with toners.
Step 4: Moisturizers/Body Lotions
After you exfoliate, your skin is in one of its most vulnerable stages. This is the most important time to moisturize and re-hydrate your skin. It’s also essential to understand that dry skin has a decreased capacity to heal, making it far more susceptible to various forms of skin damage, such as over-exposure to the sun. Generally, the drier your skin the thicker the moisturizer you should choose. All skin types need a moisturizer, and one of the most valuable ingredients to look for is a UV filter. This ensures your moisturizer will give your skin year-round protection from the burning rays of the sun.But in case of summers try shifting from thick, creamy moisturizers to light weight ones with an SPF.

Step 5: Sunblock
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen..The use of sunscreen is by far one of the most essential habits to adopt in order to protect your skin from burns, wrinkles, dehydration, early aging and skin cancer. Experts recommend you utilize a water-resistant SPF of 30 or more, even on cloudy days, and reapply approximately every 2 hours.
 Step 6: Smooth Skin
If your summer forecast calls for sunny days outdoors, you may be putting some effort into removing unwanted hair. But once you rip off the wax strip, it’s also important to care for the skin that’s newly exposed to the elements. Give your skin some time to recover before getting active outdoors.Waxed skin is photosensitive and more susceptible to burning, so take extra care to so cover up and wear SPF after waxing. Even aloevera gel is said to have amazing soothing effects for people with sensitive skin. Also, post waxing, a proper at-home exfoliation regimen is key to preventing in-grown hairs.
Step 7: Treat You Feat
If you’ve stuffed your feet inside shoes/boots all winter, they probably need a lil' attention for the sandal/flip flops weather. Jump-start your program with a pedicure. Relax and soak your feet in warm water for a few minutes. Then exfoliate your feet, paying special attention to your heels and toes.Another favorite tricks is to massage your feet with a heavy cream, and then put on a pair of socks before hitting the pillow. Apply your favorite summery shades of nail paints..and you are 'feet ready' :)
P.S. I'm so excited to push away the blacks and blues in my nail paint stash behind and bring forth the corals and pinks :)

My search for that perfect everyday cream made me try many a products that markets are flooded with. Some broke me out, others left a white cast, were drying/powdery and there were those who went awfully wrong with the camera :/

Avon Care Fairness Cream comes in a cute looking white-pink plastic tube with a twist open blue cap. Nothing fancy just cute and practical.

My Experience:

Now before I narrate my experience, let me stress that I wasn't hunting for a "fairness" cream,I have medium to fair complexion (though I love love love duskier beauties..Chitrangda Singh to name one) All I wanted was a budget daily cream which would brighten and freshen my face up and an even skin tone would surely be a thumbs up. My Avon rep suggested me this, stating its one of her regularly in-demand product. Rs.75/- for an experiment wasn't burning a hole..so gave it a try and Whoaaa..
Its baby pink in colour, has a lovely floral smell which is pretty noticeable (might even prove to be too strong for sensitive noses) but I like it..its floral and its fresh!
It brightens up the face and has a moisturising effect as well. Doesn't break me out and no white cast effect.

2. I like the floral fresh fragrance (remember its not mild)
3. Travel friendly packaging.

5. Does not dry me out.
6. Does not leave a white cast (until you apply loads of it)
7. A pea-size is more than enough for the whole face
8. Has a moisturising effect.
9. Gives a glowy-dewy finish.
10. Super-Affordable.

My Dislikes:
1. The smell can be strong for some!
2. Has Parabens.
3. Doesn't provide much coverage (its not tinted you see)

Last Word:
My holy grail everyday cream!

Repurchase:
YUP..for sure!

Packaging: Well this is the section I was curious to write about.Since this trio was a gift set,the packaging looked like a gift every bit.All the three tubs came in a sturdy and beautiful white metal tray with the measurements just appropriate to accommodate the three tubs. The carving on the tray reminded me of the Mughal architecture. The tray can be used to store other things as well :)
Coming to the packaging of the body butter, its in the same TBS trademark plastic tubs with the screw caps, the colours of the tubs represent the fruit, flower etc.it boasts to be made up of.

My Take:
This Body butter trio set was a gift from my best friend. She got me this from Dubai and it became my first experience of body butters. The moment I saw it ,I fell in love with the tray packaging and after opening it,I was mmmmmmmm.... swept away off my feet by its smell fragrance.A small review of each following:
Moringa: Moringa is considered to be the most nutrient rich plant on earth. Moringa leaves have been consumed by Asian people for millennia as a healthy food product. Containing more than 90 nutrients and 46 antioxidants, these vivid green leaves are nature’s super-power food. This is my personal favourite of all the three. It smells DIVINE (yup,in CAPITAL LETTERS). The moment I unscrew the cap,it takes me to some other world (Now I'm on a hunt for a perfume with similar floral notes).I can write an epic on just the fragrance of it,but as of now...let's move to the other one!
Strawberry:This comes in a deep burgundy tub.The smell, the USP of all TBS body butters is very yummy and edible..kinda very sugared strawberries like. The colour of the body butter is soft pink,as if natural strawberries have been whipped with the butter..smells yum, feels yummier!!! Now moving to the third one of the trio:
Sweet Lemon: The colour of the packaging and that of the body butter of TBS Sweet Lemon is similar to that of Moringa one, though a little brighter. This as the name indicates has a citrus fragrance. It is very refreshing, the smell instantly opens up the mind and eyes.I specially like using this much before the winters approach as it appears to be a sorta cool fragrance, very summery kinds.

TBS Body Butters named aptly feel like butter on the skin. They are very moisturizing and get absorbed in the skin quickly leaving behind a wonderfully smelling youuu :) They are thick yet non-greasy,a boon for dry skinned beauties!

My Likes:
1.Smells divine.
2.Very Moisturizing.
3.Non-greasy.
4.Beautiful tray packaging.
5.Not tested on animals.
6.Unbreakable.
7.You can see how mush product is left in the tub.
8.Can be accommodated in the daily handbag.
My Dislikes:
1.Tub packaging might seem unhygienic to some.
2.A bit expensive.
Last Word: For a person with super dry skin, this comes as a Saviour. I love it!
Repurchase: Waiting for my bestie's another trip to India ;)
