What to do when you buy powder/compacts darker than your skin tone? Savvy by DB !

5.4.14 14 Comments
Well there are times when you get certain cosmetics as gifts and then you spend a great amount of energy in finding a perfect use to it. Though it happens rarely with me,but when it does.....this is what happens!!!
I got this Savvy Pressed Powder in dark as a gift from Australia, the shade being way to dark than my skin....read on to know how I made it work for me:

Product Description:
Savvy by DB is an Australian brand and is available at Priceline. Though the packaging says its made in China. Visit the link to know more.

Packaging:
It comes in a deep plum, round, plastic case. The see-through sttached lid has the brand name. The pan is sturdy enough and the lid click locks. Is comes without a mirror/brush.

Shade,Ingredients and Weight:
This is the issue...since it was a gift, the exact matching shade wasn't even expected. But this was at-least 2-3shades darker than my skin tone. Applying it all over my face makes me look sun burnt :(

How I Made it Work for Me:
The shade being darker like I just said made me look sun-burnt instead of sun-kissed ;)
But the formula and staying power tempted me to use it. So I thought it would be best if I used it as a bronzer instead of powder. This being matte does full justice as a bronzer and is perfect for the day time when you want to look a bit chiseled without being OTT. I wore this in my No-Makeup Look Post, and this is how it looked on me!
Sorry for not posting a new pic..I somehow didn't feel like doing FOTDs..will compensate this with something else in the upcoming posts :)

Till then:

xoxo

Avon Smooth and White Pressed Powder SPF 14: Review

10.6.13 5 Comments
I have a love hate kinda relationship with Avon. I often make faces about some of their products and yet I'm eagerly waiting for their new online catalogs. Today's product is from their simply pretty range,Its the Smooth and White Pressed Powder.
Company Claims:
Look naturally fair and fresh all day !
  • Contains Licorice extract to help lighten skin and SPF 14 UVA/UVB protects to prevent skin darkening n sun damage
  • Ultra absorbing, micro-powders blend evenly and smoothly for that fresh feeling
  • Oil-free, Dermatologist-tested, Clinically tested, Non-comedogenic n Non-acnegenic
Price vs Quantity: INR 249/10gm

Shades:
  • Almond
  • Soft Bisque
  • Golden Beige
  • Natural
My Take:
To start off, I'm not a big fan of compacts/pressed powders because they are actually not a pleasure to my dry skin. But given to the humid weather I do need to touch up the t-zone. Its available in 4shades and I have the one in Soft Bisque. Avon Smooth and White Pressed Powder comes in a a cute and sturdy baby pink packaging with a mirror and a powder puff. The texture of the powder is nothing to boast about...Its dry and powdery and chalky and makes me look patchy :(
I'm yet not able to figure out as to why this product is a totally dud for me when I come across positive reviews of it. Could be the shade Soft Bisque is too light on me (NC 35ish)
But the formula isn't anywhere close to...smooooth :/
My Likes:
1. Cute Packaging.
2. Sturdy... Travel friendly
3. Comes with a mirror and powder puff.
4. Light on pocket when on discount.
5. Has SPF 14.

My Dislikes:
1. The shade (soft Bisque) is light on me.
2. The texture is not smooth.
3. Doesn't spread easily.
4. Leaves a patchy finish.
5. Doesn't photograph well.
6. Very Chalky.
7. Avon misunderstands shine-free with dry :/
8. Images on the catalog are not colour-true
9. You need an Avon Rep to get this.

Last Word:
Though light on pocket is heavy on face :/
I'm using the existing one on my neck :(

Repurchase:
Hell...NO

Over All Rating: 2/5 (2 for good packaging,else...)
