Makeup Revolution Eat Sleep Makeup Repeat Pro Looks Palette : Review, Price, Swatches and EOTD

27.5.17 4 Comments

Halllllllo Bellezas....!!!
This is my second Makeup Revolution eyeshadow palette, the first being the New-Trals Vs. Neutrals is an absolute favourite. On a normal day, I'm a neutral eyeshadow kinda person and THIS is definitely the brightest and most colourful palette in my stash. Liking an eyeshadow palette is really a task for me because I want it to be as versatile as possible (Gimme a rainbow for a palette :D) I can seriously never pay big bucks for ten similar looking eyeshadows of apparently similar finishes. If you too like me prefer a palette that has a multitude of shades and finishes..come on board 'coz we've got you covered!

Price: 6 GBP
(Interestingly, each online website be it flipkart, nykaa, jabong etc.is showing a different MRP for this palette although its discounted everywhere, so incase you are interested in owning it take a look around!)

There isn't anything particularly revolutionary about the packaging of the EAT SLEEP MAKEUP REPEAT palette, nor do they need one. Makeup Revolution palettes are neat and practical with a huge mirror. The shade names are printed on a transparent plastic sheet placed above the shadows and not engraved on the palette like the most high end ones and if you loose the label sheet, you loose the names as well..I know Duh! The sponge applicator provided is probably of no use. Since the name suggests (3Looks in 1 Palette), the palette is divided into 3blocks of 5 eyeshadows each (out of which, one is a highlighter) thus 15 eyeshadows.

The palette houses 15 shades in three different categories:
  • Reds/Pinks
  • Green/Yellow
  • Blue/Purple
  • Each category has a highlighter.

Reds/Pinks
  • Rave On- White highlighter, matte, chalky, poor pigmentation!...DUD!!
  • Say It Now- Coral Red with silver shimmers, satin finish, very pigmented.
  • Right Now- Hot Pink(neon), matte, poor pigmentation.
  • Right Here- Purple with magenta undertones, duo-chrome,shimmery,highly pigmented...LOVE!!!
  • Final Track- Rani Pink (cool toned fuschia),slightly duo-chrome,pigmentation is neither great nor bad.
Greens/Yellows
  • Rave Off-  Silver highlighter,shimmery,pigmented.
  • Needle On- Moss Green,foiled kinda finish,pigmented...LOVE!!!
  • Hot Track- Lime Green (neon),matte, very poor pigmentation (had to dig in finger to show the colour)..DUD!!!
  • Re-mix- Deep Forest Green,shimmery,highly pigmented...LOVE!!!
  • Eat Everything- Olive Green/Heena Green, satin finish, pigmented.
Blues/Purples
  • Repeat Again- Metallic Silver,super shimmery,foil finish,highly pigmented,STAR PERFORMER!!
  • Sleep All Day- Cobalt Blue, matte, pigmented.
  • Rave All Night- Denim Blue with minuscule silver shimmers, cool toned, satin finish, well pigmented.
  •  Magician- Deep Mauve, matte, poorly pigmented...DUD!!!
  • Ibiza Heaven- Violet,satin finish,pigmented.
And Here's my attempt to create three different looks with this :)

Overall, the mattes and neons failed badly while rest of the 12 shades are amazing value for money.
This isn't the palette for the weak-hearted for sure and this is
neither the one that I would reach out for often..definitely a neutrals girl!! But this is the palette that every eye makeup enthusiast should stash away for those pop-of-colour moods and versatile looks!!

Recreating Anushka Shetty's Devasena Look of Bahubali 2

1.5.17 12 Comments
Hallllooo Bellezas..!!!
Its been some time that I posted..writer's block..artist's block..blogger's block..or probably looking for something exciting other than the mundane review posting. Having said that,it's not like I don't like writing reviews but I go through passion-shifting phases in life ;) :P
Anyway, while the world is going gaga over Bahubali-2, I couldn't be left behind. It has been on a smashing ride on the box office ever since its release and this brought me to the idea of recreating the look of the female protagonist Devasena (played by Anushka Shetty) A little about the character:
Devasena (Anushka Shetty) is a princess from Kunthala region, a small but prosperous region in the fictional universe of Mahishmati. She is accomplished, a great warrior and archer who is constantly trying to better her art through diligent practice. Bahubali seems to be impressed more by her technique of martial arts than her beauty — he doesn’t just think of her as a beautiful person, but as someone much more than.
(Source: www.firstpost.com)

Now coming to back to the look that I have created:

Being honest, I've always loved taking part in programmes that required me to dress up in a regional attire..be it dance, skits and stuff at different academic levels. I'm so mesmerized by our country and its resplendent culture that even when I plan a vacation, I try to geographically cover the scattered Indian topographical beauty and foreign lands are still at bay even in my wishlist :)
Given my obsession to our culture and the rave that Bahubali 2 is creating, I thought why not make the most of it and Recreate my version of Devasena. Since Devasena is a princess, the look is a super glam one with heavily kohled eyes and bright attire. Gold jewellery is a characteristic feature of South India and Devasena being a royal couldn't be left behind.
To start off I searched my wardrobe for similar coloured saree and blouse of a matching hue (though it did not match :P) I found this bright hot pink saree with pearl embroidery that I wore for my engagement and the blue kanjivaram blouse is probably the only blue blouse I have!
The second major concern was the jewellery since makeup I knew I had plenty ;) The maangtika is from my wedding. The nath is Maharashtrian nath and I added my own nath's string to it to match the look. I obviously don't have the piercing to wear a septum ring or mookuthi as they call it in south India, so I wore a clip on ear cuff to do justice with the look. The jhumkaas and neckpiece are from my old ethnic jewellery collection.
Now coming to the makeup:

The feature that caught my attention was the heavy kohled eyes and the artistically painted bindi. But since a makeup base is a first step, after moisturizing my skin I applied Colorbar primer followed by Maybelline Fit Me matte n poreless foundation. I applied the Maybelline Fit Me compact only on the under eyes and the sides of the nose which tend to get oily otherwise. Even though the camera isn't catching,I applied The Balm Bahama Mama bronzer and wet n wild blush in pearlescent pink. For the quintessential kohled eyes, I applied a splash of dark brown eyeshadow and lined my upper lash line with the Lakme felt tip eyeliner. I lined my waterline with Lakme Eyeconic kajal and used the Lakme liquid eyeliner for the lower lash line. I applied a mild layer of Maybelline colossal mascara on the eyelashes thinking to wear the falsies later...which I FORGOT :P
For the lips I mixed Lakme 9to5 Rosy Sunday
For the bindi I was pretty purplexed. I searched everything in the house from liquid kumkum to poster colours and I had none.. after searching high and low (yes a BUDGET belleza won't buy stuff for a look..she would just work around what she has :P)
I landed on a liquid lipstick which was way too dark..I mixed some red lipstick (L'oreal Decked in Red) and painted the bindi with a triple 0 paint brush!
That's All folks!!! Hope you will like what I came up with :)
Pray to God I stay motivated to do more stuff :P
I'm praying too :D

Eyebrow Tutorial : How To Get Beautiful Thick Brows In 6 Easy Steps !!

12.9.16 4 Comments
You Guessed it right..Its the Eyebrow Tutorial today!!
And before I start, I would like to thank all of you for the love and support you have shown. All of you who have appreciated my work and came up to clear your thoughts or request a tutorial whether as direct messages on instagram or texts on facebook and even emails.. take this as a personal thank note !!
I have always felt that out of all our facial features, beauty passions, cosmetic buys and makeup discussions EYEBROWS have been the most underrated feature of our face. When we think of dressing up, makeup base (foundation), lip products and eyeshadows are our major concern and we quite at times overlook the fact that eyebrows are a very essential facial feature that needs due recognition. Eyebrows provide a frame to the face and if done properly ,they lift up your whole look. In the absence of neatly and prominently done eyebrows the face looks incomplete even if rest of the makeup is on point.
And you guys..thick, groomed brows were the latest trend that came across even in the recent New York Fashion Week!!
So beauties...DON'T ignore thy brows!!
Without further delay..lets get started!!

Things You'll Need (in order of usage) :
  • Tweezers
  • Eyebrow groomer brush (even a toothbrush works)
  • Small angled brush
  • Brow powder/Matte Brown Eyeshadow/ Matte Brown Gel Liner
  • Concealer
  • Flat Concealer Brush
  • Q-tip
  • Brow Gel/Hair Spray with a Spoolie
Method:

1. Shaping : First of all you need a clean slate to work on. Any amount of precision would not look beautiful if tiny little hair are sticking out of the brow line. So pick up your tweezers and pluck all the extra hair to get a clean brow area. Also generally when we do things ourselves,we tend to ignore the area above our brows and concentrate mainly on the brow bone zone. Don't do that, take out the extras from below and above your brow.

2. Brushing/Grooming : Now that you have cleaned your brows of any extra hair, brush them with an eyebrow groomer to make them smooth and to expose the areas that need to be filled in the next step. If you have a well-practiced hand then you can even cut any hair that's sticking out of the brows. But leave this step if you don't have a steady hand. In case you don't have an eyebrow groomer brush, you can use a baby brush which serves the purpose just right.

3. Filling : Third step is the main step...Filling your brows. Now there's a plethora of eyebrow filling products from the good old eyebrow pencils to brow powders and wax to even brow mousse with a mascara like (spoolie) wand. Traditionally, we rely on eyebrow pencils to fill our brows but i find them looking too harsh on me. Truly speaking you can use ANY MATTE DARK BROWN EYESHADOW OR BRONZER for a natural looking fuller eyebrows.
I personally alternate between a slightly dry dark brown gel eyeliner, The Balm Bahama Mama bronzer or even the dark brown eyeshadow from the Maybelline Chai Latte Quad.
With an angled brush draw a defined line below and above your brow if you have sparse eyebrows (in case you already have thick brows, just draw a line along the brow line). While filling your brows, apply very light strokes on the inner and outer end because it looks really unnatural if you do the beginning and end heavily. You can apply with a little heavy hand on the arch of the brow though.

4. Clean Up The Mess: This is easy..take a q-tip and clean up any product that has come out of the brows (below and above).

5.  Highlighting: This is an underrated yet very important step. Once you are done with shaping and filling your brows, take a concealer that is one or two shades lighter to your skin tone and highlight just below and above your brow. Blend it well (you can totally use your fingers instead of the concealer brush). This will pop out your brows beautifully and give a nice frame to the face.

 6. Apply Gel and Let It Set: Now that your eyebrow is groomed, filled and highlighted, apply some gel on them and brush with a groomer or spoolie (or again..a baby brush) so that they stay in their place and don't budge. There are various options in the market for brow gels, however I use Patanjali Aloevera Gel and it does its job. A spoolie sprayed with a hair spray is a popular budget hack to replace an expensive brow gel.
TaaaDaaaaa...You're done!!!
Here's the complete look:

I tried incorporating everything that I personally do for my brows though there are much extensive ways of doing it.
Hope you guys liked it :)

Makeup Revolution Professional Eyeshadow Palette NEW-TRALS vs NEUTRALS : Review,Price,Swatches and FOTD

13.6.16 10 Comments
Hey eye-makeup enthusiasts..and the ones who want to try their hands on it..!!! Today's review is gonna excite you much :D
I haven't reviewed eyeshadow palettes much on the blog. You can read my last review of a palette here.
There's loads to tell..so heading on straight to the palette..!!

Price: INR 1350/- (available here

Makeup Revolution London is a UK drugstore brand and has received a lot of love from budget makeup lovers.Their eye and face palettes, known to be dupes of higher end makeup palettes like Urban Decay Naked series and Lorac Pro are a huge hit!!
I wanted to own one from the brand and after having a look at the collection I zeroed in on this beauty..
NEW-TRALS vs NEUTRALS !
The packaging is practical n neat. I like the matte black case. The mirror provided is big enough to assist a full face makeup. Along with it comes a double-ended (fluffy/flat) brush which isn't actually bad, specially the fluffy/blending side!
It houses 16 eyeshadows of different finishes: matte, satin, shimmer and foil!

The 16 shadows are divided into two rows:
Top Row: Has everything from Spring to Autumn!
Bottom Row: Has more neutral and shimmery shades!
The good thing is that all the shades have names..
The bad thing...they are not printed on the case, rather on a plastic sheet :/

Top Row:
  • BIAS - Champagne/satin finish (used as a highlighter in the pic below)
  • NEUTRAL - Taupe/matte finish
  • PERSONAL - Rosegold/shimmery (BEAUTIFUL..LOVE it)
  • VOGUE - Coral/satin finish
  • TREND - Warm Terracotta/matte finish
  • NEW-TRAL - Cranberry/satin finish (lovely sheen)
  • TONE - Burgundy/matte finish
  • CUSTOM -  Deep Brown/matte
 Bottom Row:
  • COOL - Off-white/matte (chalky,less pigmented)
  • STYLE - Soft pink/shimmery/foil-like finish (beautiful date-night kinda pink)
  • PARTIAL - Mauvy pink/shimmery/foil-like finish
  • MODE - Warm rusty gold/shimmery/foil-like finish
  • ADAPT - Deeper Taupe/matte finish
  • BUFF - Gunmetal with pink undertones/satin-pearly finish
  • SUIT- Deep grey/matte finish
  • STRONG - Duo-chrome/gliterry black with loads of pink shimmers (LOVE!)
And here's my little tryst with it!

I'm in total love with this palette,be it the quality, the packaging or the shade selection. With this one can create different looks from spring to autumn and glam to neutral :)

Wet N Wild Eye Color Icon Pallete in The Naked Truth: Review,Swatches,Price,EOTD

13.1.16 4 Comments
Heyaaaa..
To begin with my daughter is 19 months old now..and that's exactly where all my time and energy goes. She keeps me on my toes and yet I haven't lost an ounce of weight ;) :P

Rants aside, today I'm here with something I thought would replace the Maybelline Chai Latte Quad from my makeup bag..the shades and finishes appeared similar and I was happy that Chai Latte is gonna have a cousin...But....
Read On.... ;)
Brand Claims:

Ingredients:

Price: $3.99

Packaging:

The Naked Truth pallete comes in a 5-pan pallete range of Wet n Wild eyeshadows. The setting is fine for the price and has a see-through plastic lid. It comes with a brush and sponge applicator (which are of no use off course).

Shades:
Image has been taken from google and I don't claim ownership
Color icon palletes were launched in 5 different variants and The Naked Truth was their nude pallete.

Base: Warm ivory/shade in matte finish.
Browbone: Cool-toned off white with silver shimmers.
Definer: Dark choco brown in matte finish.
Eyelid: Cool-toned taupey gunmetal in satin finish.
Crease: Warm-toned coppery brown with gold shimmers.

My Take:
Let me confess,I was super excited to get this 5-pan pallete. I thought it would straight away slide in to the makeup bag..but after using it..lemme say I'm not wowed by it.
The colour selection is absolutely amazing and a boon for nude eyeshadow lovers. And the pallete provides you eyeshadows with different finishes all at once, which is great.
But..But..But.....lets go one by one:

Base is chalky and powdery.
Eyelid and Definer have major fallout issues.
Crease is really beautiful shade but its very very dry.
Browbone shade is nice and can be used as a highlighter at the cheek bones and inner corners of the eye.
All in all the eyeshadows have fallout issues and primer would be must for them to show up and stick to the lids.
Also I noticed the different shades merged into one another giving a messy look.

Likes:
  • Affordable
  • Beautiful colour selection
  • You get different finishes in the same compact pallete
  • No problem with the packaging given the price
Dislikes:

  • Eyelid has fallout issues
  • Crease is way too dry
  • Base is too chalky
  • Primer is a MUST
  • Brush/Applicator is useless
  • Eyeshadows merge to form a single colour on lid

Last Word: I was too optimistic seeing the earthy tones, but I'm not charmed by it.

The best pencil eyeliner I have come across: Faces Canada Long Wear Eye Pencil in Purple: Review ,Swatches and EOTD

19.3.14 21 Comments
Though I can't boast to have tried umpteen colored eye pencils but with whatever little experience I have,I can safely say liquid eyeliners are my pick instead of pencils, felt tips and gel eyeliners. The reason being the amount of control that the brush of liquid eyeliners provide for the that sheer precision. Still..out of all the other brands of eye pencils I have Faces Canada Long Wear Eye Pencils are sure winner!!!
Read on to know why:

Product Claims:
Soft, creamy eye liner pencil glides on easily over the eye lid to define and highlight your eyes. The long staying formula lasts all day, yet is gentle and safe for people with sensitive eyes.

Price Vs. Quantity: INR 349/ 1.15gm

Packaging:
Faces Long Wear  Eye Pencil comes in regular pencil form that needs sharpening. The pencil has a colour codded cap and end which makes it easier to locate. The best part is that it has its basic info on the pencil itself like the manufacturing and expiry dates, weight, price and shade name.

Shade:
Faces Long Wear Eye Pencil comes in a variety of beautiful pigmented shades:
  • Teal
  • Forest Green
  • Purple
  • Solid Black
  • Black Sparkle
  • Metal Brown
  • Navy Blue
  • Turquoise Blue
  • Gray
  • Aqua Blue
  • Metallic Plum
  • Copper Rose
  • Solid Brown
I have Navy Blue,Forest Green and Purple from the lot. Purple is a pure deep deep purple shade. Not plum not lavender...just plain dark purple sans any shimmer. For all those who don't like ultra bright eye looks yet want a pop of colour..this is the one for you and for all those who want to try something other than black yet not eye-turner!!!
Texture:
The texture of Faces Long Wear Eye Pencil is one of the many USPs of this product. It is super-creamy..glides on like a dream...true to the claims!!!

Pigmentation:
Super-pigmented...one swipe and you are good to go. I need another swipe only for the proper finish and not for depositing colour.

Staying Power:
Its a Hero in this department too. Absolutely smudge-free despite being so creamy to apply is the biggest "Yayyyy" feature of the product. Moreover,it beats the Indian Summer Heat too and that too effectively!

This is how it looks on me in different lightings:
My Likes:
  • Smudge-free.
  • Creamy to apply.
  • Well-pigmented.
  • Good for beginners.
  • Purple suits Indian skin tones really well.
  • Colour coded cap and end.
  • Water resistant.
  • Amazing staying power.
  • Matte finish.
  • Water-line safe.
My Dislike:
  • The fact that the brand has risen the price from 249/- to 349/-
  • Sharpening leads to product wastage.
  • It is so creamy that it needs to be refrigerated before sharpening in summers.
  • Drawing a thin line isn't easy with this one!
Last Word:
Despite the cons..this is THE BEST eye pencil I have used till date!

Repurchase:
For sure!!!

Over All Rating: 5/5
