Technically My First Hot Pink: Avon Ultra Colour Lipstick in Hot Pink: Review and Swatches

19.9.14 10 Comments
Though a lipstick lover, I'm so unamused to find myself stuck in a rut where shades are concerned. I'm basically a peachy nude lover and sadly enough I quite at times buy similar shades in different finishes from different brands. The reason is not the obvious one...not coming out of my comfort zone or playing safe or being hesitant to wear brights....the reason is my love for eye makeup that ends up in me going for subtle lips and bold eyes...but..but..but!!!
Not anymore... here's my plunge into the HOT PINK love :)

Also this Avon Ultra Colour Lipstick in Hot Pink is my first from the range:

Company Claims:
Comfortable wear lipstick with stay-true rich colour, makes lips feel smooth, moisturized and soft.
Pigments reactivate when lips are pursed together for colour that keeps on going.
Self Renewing colour.

Price/Quantity: INR 359/3.8gm (currently on offer-249/-)

Packaging:
Avon Ultra Colour Lipstick comes in a shiny black square case (I love lippies that don't go rolling down coz of there roundness) The cap click locks. The shade name is mentioned at the bottom end of the lipstick. The top end of the cap is see-through.

Shade:

The shade is what the shade name is.... its Hot Pink!!
Not a warm shade for sure. Its a pink with blue undertones, but somehow it still suits my warm complexion. Its a beautiful bright pink that brightens up the whole look.

Texture:
You can make out from the lip swatch above its super creamy and gives a lip butter kinda feel. I prefer these kind of textures in winters only,in summers they give a melty sort of feeling.

Staying Power:
Well it lacks in this department, the staying power isn't that awesome given to its buttery texture. Its highly transferable and every time you eat/drink or do any other lip job ;)...you loose a bit of it :(

Now some Lip Swatches in different lights:

My Likes:
  • Very Creamy..boon for dry lips!
  • Beautiful Hot Pink.
  • Good packaging..packaging wise its travel friendly, texture wise not!
  • Top end of the cap is see-through.
My Dislikes:
  • Prone to melting in summers...so refrigerate!
  • Not travel-friendly..will turn gooey in your purse.
  • Needs a pencil outline,otherwise might feather.
  • Wear time isn't impressive.
  • Though a very bright shade, still it fails to pack pigments onto your lips.
  • Highly transferable.
  • Availability.
Last Word:
A beautiful shade,I just wish it was less creamy and had a better wear-time.

Repurchase:
No!!!!

How to Create a Lip Pot out of Leftover Lipsticks: DIY,Tute and Swatches

26.2.14 19 Comments
Hola Bellezas...
This is for all you beauties who wanted to know through Facebook and emails, how I did a custom-made lip pot out of leftover lippies..
Lets begin with the outcome first :

Makeup can get expensive. And being a BUDGET belleza,I have a hard time trashing anything... specially the lippies that were once my favourite. So,I generally used to fix the broken lippies rather than throwing them out..But this time I went a step further and used even the leftover lipstick in the tube, which had no future otherwise..
I've always known that when you hit the plastic base of the lipstick, there is always some product left over in there. Sometimes, if it was a color I loved, I would take a lip brush and use a little bit more. I was thinking it was just a wee bit that was left in there. But no,last night when I inserted a toothpick inside the tube,it was half way in there. There was so much lipstick in there..!!!!
Here's what I did:
Note: Since it is a requested post,I could not click pics step wise. The pics are combined to make the post comprehensive!

From a Leftover Lipstick to a Moisturizing Lip Pot:Here's How
Things you will need:

  • Broken or leftover lipsticks (Do check their expiry date before using)
  • Leftover lip balms/ Vaseline.
  • Microwave safe container/ Metal plate.
  • Microwave/ Candle.
  • Orange stick/ Toothpick.
  • An empty container with a lid/ Sample jar/ Old lip balm pot.
  • Tissues.
  • Rubbing Alcohol.

Instructions:

  • Take a microwave safe container and clean it using some rubbing alcohol..let it dry.
  • Scrape out the lipstick from its plastic base using a tooth pick/orange stick and collect in the container. I used my finished Avon Simply Pretty in Mango Mania and Maybelline Moisture Extreme in Pure Plum.

  • Now scrape out the lipbalms into the same container. Incase you don't have leftover lipbalms, you can use vaseline as well.
  • Adjust the quantity of lipstick and lip balm according to your needs. I wanted a hydrating lip product thus I added more lipbalm.
  • Microwave the container for a min. Keep a check on it every 20 seconds. It should only heat up enough to get mixed well and NOT boil.

  • Now take an empty jar which has a lid. It could be an empty single eye shadow container,a sample jar or an old lip balm pot. I used my empty Lotus lip balm pot. Clean it well using some rubbing alcohol in a tissue. Let it dry completely.
  • When completely dry transfer the liquid lipstick from the microwave to the Lip pot.
  • Keep it in deep freeze for 30 minutes.
  • And you have your very own custom made, super hydrating lip pot :)
The lip swatch is more true to colour than hand swatch!
The lasting power is around 2-3hrs. If you want more staying power, add less lip balm. Moisturization and longevity are inversely proportional in Lipstick Chemistry :P
Hope you liked it as much as I'm lovin' it :)
P.S. If you don't want to microwave, you can collect the scarped out material in a metal plate and melt it over a candle..Simple!!!

Avon Nourishing Cream with Almond Oil: Review

31.1.14 8 Comments
Winters and dry skin go hand in hand and this is the season when my skin screams for hydrating creams and moisturizers. The one currently in use is the Avon Nourishing Cream

Company Claims and Directions to Use:

Ingredients:
Price/Quantity: INR 109 /50gm

My Take:
Being dry skinned,I'm always on a look out for budget friendly moisturisers and face creams to make myself feel hydrated enough. This time I gave this one a try.

Avon Nourishing Cream with Almond Oil comes in a tube packaging, just like their Avon Fairness Cream. Easy,non-fussy and can be carried anywhere along.

It is milky white in colour and has a smooth texture. It works well as a moisturiser. Since it is light on skin,it gets absorbed without much effort. Being light enough,it does not leave the skin greasy. It has a floral fragrance that is mild enough to be called pleasant. The only issue is that though it claims to have almond oil, I didn't find it moisturising enough for my dry skin,I often notice a need of reapplication after 3-4 hours. Also, since it is a moisturising cream one cannot expect it to give a brightening effect. So in case you are fond of brightening creams or the ones which provide some amount of coverage like me...you will need something above this before leaving the house.

My Likes:
1. Feels very light on skin.
2. Moisturises well (only if you are not super dry)
3. Gets easily absorbed.
4. Mild floral fragrance.
5. Travel friendly.
6. Budget friendly.
7. Non-greasy.
8. Just a pea-size is enough.

My Dislikes:
Besides being a lover of brightening creams, the only issue I have against Avon Nourishing Cream with Almond Oil is that I need a bit more moisturisation than what it provides.

Last Word: Cheap,non-greasy,travel friendly,moisturising cream!!!

Repurchase: Can't say,I'm loving Lotus Herbals Microemulsion as well!

Fresh,Natural,No-Makeup Look Using Drugstore Products:Tutorial

14.12.13 33 Comments
Remember the advertisement?
"Maybe she's born with it,Maybe its Maybelline !!!"
The irony is...a lot of makeup goes into creating a No-Makeup Look, just as the amount of effort taken to create an out-of-the-bed messy hair ;)
Today I'm going to tell you how to apply makeup just to hide your flaws and enhance your best features.
The aim is to achieve a fresh, effortless, natural look using pocket-friendly products and not look made-up.
Here's the finished look for you all:
The products used for this everyday look are:

How To:
FACE:
  • Apply moisturiser on a clean face.
  • Dab a few dots of a medium coverage foundation and blend using fingers,stippling/kabuki/foundation brush or makeup sponges. I used a stippling brush.
  • Apply a concealer in under eyes and blend using fingers.
  • I did not apply powder/compact. If you want, take some on a powder brush and just sweep through your face,to set the makeup.
  • Apply bronzer or any powder that is 3-4 shades darker than your skin tone in the hollows of your cheeks...I don't have hollows,I have to create :P
  • Just above the bronzer apply a soft pink/peach blush on the apples of your cheeks.
  • Above the blush and on your cheekbones apply highlighter.
This is the way bronzer, blush and highlighter should go!

EYES:
  • Apply primer. I used Bys eyeshadow mousse in gold.
  • Pick a colour just a shade darker for your lid area and pack your lids with it.
  • On the outer corner use a little darker taupe/brown eyeshadow and take it to the crease.
  • Apply a brown eyeliner.
  • Curl your lashes and apply mascara.
  • Now if you have brow powder that suits you,use that! Else, use any matte dark brown eyeshadow to fill your eyebrows.
  • Apply the same highlighter on your brow bone that you applied on your cheek bones.
LIPS:
  • Apply a nude/soft pink,peach/an mlbb lipstick of your choice.
  • I love Colorbar Over The Top,but to sheer it out I applied a non-tinted lip balm underneath.
And you are DONE!

Ayur Herbal Deep Pore Cleansing Milk: Review

8.11.13 75 Comments
Like I said before... Getting dolled up is our birth right but removing the paint and powder is our fundamental duty and practically off all the sins a woman can commit 'sleeping with makeup on' scores to be the biggest one ;)
Luckily, the markets today are flooded equally with the stuffs to put on and then the stuffs to take it all off. After a heartbreaking experience with Himalaya Herbals Deep Cleansing Milk,I thought of giving this cheap baby a shot !!!
Read on to know how it fared:
Company Claims and Directions to Use:
Price Vs.Quantity: INR 65/ 200ml

Ingredients:
Packaging:
Ayur Herbal Deep Pore Cleansing Milk comes in a non-fussy see-through plastic bottle with a flip cap. The amount of the product can be controlled, the bottle can be carried around and the amount of product left can be seen...I don't ask for more...Period!

My Take:
After a not-so good experience with cleansing milks earlier,I went back to the good ol' baby oil for that 'no trace of makeup left' kinda feeling. And then a stroll to the local grocery store got me this Ayur Herbal Deep Pore Cleansing Milk .... and I thank the grocery store for this :P This is my first brush with the brand.
Well, actually I got this in summers but I wanted to wait till cooler times arrive coz my earlier one used to thicken badly enough in winters. But this one sticks to its consistency irrespective of the weather.
Its neither too thick nor runny, just the perfect consistency for a cleansing milk. The colour is milky white and it has an artificial floral smell which isn't overwhelming, infact I like it!
The best part.....it cleanses realllly well.. you can see the collage below for reference: (with a foundation as a base)

*1. Faces Moisture Extreme lipstick in French Rose, 2. Nyx Round Lipstick in Spell Bound, 3. Faces Satin Matte Lipstick in Cafe'Latte Brown, 4. Avon Glimmersticks Diamond Eyeliner in Twilight Sparkle and 5. Eyeshadow from the Maybelline Chai Latte Quad

The after feeling is such a non-greasy,moisturised skin..love it!
What really took me by surprise was that it did not just take the makeup off,I tried using it on a bare face (all the drills of being a beauty blogger) and it removed the dirt as well  *happy dance*

My Likes:
1. Removes every trace of makeup well.
2. Removes dirt from bare skin.
3. Nice fragrance.
4. Practical packaging.
5. See through bottle.
6. Correct consistency.
7. Leaves skin smooth and supple.
8. Super affordable (infact haven't heard of anything cheaper)
9. For all skin types.
10. Very easily available.

My Dislikes:
Has a whole list of chemicals in its ingredients...Herbal? Duh!!!

Last Word: Even though it has parabens..its the best cleansing milk for the price of it,infact better than its costlier counterparts..Loved it!!

Repurchase: It will be my HG <3
