Sugar Drop The Base Serum Foundation Review

13.10.20 7 Comments
I'm a foundation junkie and no matter what I wear I can never say it's my ride or die makeup base. I'm still on the hunt for a foundation that applies happily  on its own and doesn't need to be mixed with another potion to adjust shade, formula or coverage.
Heard a lot about this @trysugar Drop the base serum foundation when it was launched but I already had a beaming stash to finish off back then, so I decided to give it some time (although all in vain..I still have a beaming stash 😝)
With festivities knocking at the door, we can't deny  even the pandemic isn't letting our spirits die down!!
Foundation, as the very name suggests is the very base of our makeup and here's a quick review of @trysugar 𝐃𝐑𝐎𝐏 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐄 𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐔𝐌 𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 in the shade Cortado for you all to help get that even tone and glowy look this #pujo

☑️ Quite runny in texture
☑️ Blends beautifully
☑️ Medium to almost full coverage
☑️ Velvety/satiny formula
☑️ Photographs EXTREMELY well
❎ Quantity is 20 ml which is less than regular foundations that are generally 30ml
❎ Looks best when freshly applied
❎ Be careful while using a sponge/beauty blender since it might absorb a lot given it's runny formula

That's all folks!! Cyaa soon!!

Wet n Wild Mega Cushion Foundation in Buff Beige: Review, Price and FOTD

19.1.19 11 Comments
I remember the time when I had just one foundation and even that used to expire before hitting bottom. Ignorance was bliss and I didn't care much how closely the foundation matched me. All I was concerned about was that the foundation comes in three shades and generally the medium shade matches me fine. So even if that 'more ignorant than me' sales girl at the store tries to shove the lightest shade down my throat, I've to try to resist and buy medium..
Lesser options, easier life!!
Flash forward to 2019..... Tons of stuff sitting in stash and I know exactly what to mix with what to get my desired shade, coverage and finish.. Complicated much but that's what knowledge does.
Having tried liquid, cream, gel and powder foundations, what's left was the cushion foundations. Now before I begin with the review, let me tell you it's a whole gimmick where much little product is offered to you at much higher price in the name of cushion foundations.
Let's get started with the review:
 Price/Quantity: ₹899/15mg

Ingredients:

Packaging:
Wet n Wild Mega Cushion Foundation with SPF 15 comes in a round cute plastic case. Inside the case, sits a sponge filled with foundation and below it in a different compartment there is a puff to apply it. The shade on the case packaging denotes the actual foundation shade. The case click locks firmly and is superb for traveling with.

Shade: Buff Beige 119A

Wet n Wild Mega Cushion Foundation was launched in 4 different shades in India. For reference, I'm NC30 in MAC and the shade Buff Beige is a close match to me. It is a medium warm shade with yellow undertones. Now when a product from a drugstore brand is a little on the higher spectrum of price, it is expected to atleast give a better shade range to its customer base. 899 bucks for a total of four shade option isn't justified at all.

Finish/Coverage/Longevity
Wet n Wild Mega Cushion Foundation has a very light weight formula. It applies smoothly and leaves a satin/dewy finish that my dry skin totally loves. Surprisingly it makes the skin look primed even without using a primer.
It gives a medium coverage at first application but it is buildable. In any case,I don't find it to be a full coverage foundation.
I wore this foundation for a good 9 hours to test and I could see the shine on my t-zone within 5 hours of the wear...this given the fact that I have a dry skin. So maybe you can skip it if you have an oily skin or make pressed powder your best friend.

My 2cents:
Firstly, with plethora of options of the foundation formula from cream to liquid to gel and sprays to finally stick and cushion foundations, I feel most comfortable with liquid foundations.
Secondly, I feel a bit cheated for my value of money in this cushion foundation since it offers much little product for the price paid.
Thirdly, I feel the shade range needs a quick revamp and expansion.
Fourthly, although my dry skin really loves the formula and finish of this foundation, I have the habit of mixing different foundations for the desired shade/longevity/finish which isn't really convenient with this product.

I like the fact that it has SPF 15 but again SPF15 isn't enough to stop sunburns, you will still need a sunblock underneath if damage to skin due to sun exposure is your concern.

In the FOTDs above, I've tried to keep everything muted so that the foundation can show up and doesn't get lost in the eye makeup or bright lips.

All in all, it's a foundation that gives medium coverage and dewy glow to the skin and it would work fine for the dry/normal even combination skinned beauties provided you find a GOOD shade match.

Hope the review helps you. Lemme know your thoughts if you've given it a try already!!

Recreating Anushka Shetty's Devasena Look of Bahubali 2

1.5.17 12 Comments
Hallllooo Bellezas..!!!
Its been some time that I posted..writer's block..artist's block..blogger's block..or probably looking for something exciting other than the mundane review posting. Having said that,it's not like I don't like writing reviews but I go through passion-shifting phases in life ;) :P
Anyway, while the world is going gaga over Bahubali-2, I couldn't be left behind. It has been on a smashing ride on the box office ever since its release and this brought me to the idea of recreating the look of the female protagonist Devasena (played by Anushka Shetty) A little about the character:
Devasena (Anushka Shetty) is a princess from Kunthala region, a small but prosperous region in the fictional universe of Mahishmati. She is accomplished, a great warrior and archer who is constantly trying to better her art through diligent practice. Bahubali seems to be impressed more by her technique of martial arts than her beauty — he doesn’t just think of her as a beautiful person, but as someone much more than.
(Source: www.firstpost.com)

Now coming to back to the look that I have created:

Being honest, I've always loved taking part in programmes that required me to dress up in a regional attire..be it dance, skits and stuff at different academic levels. I'm so mesmerized by our country and its resplendent culture that even when I plan a vacation, I try to geographically cover the scattered Indian topographical beauty and foreign lands are still at bay even in my wishlist :)
Given my obsession to our culture and the rave that Bahubali 2 is creating, I thought why not make the most of it and Recreate my version of Devasena. Since Devasena is a princess, the look is a super glam one with heavily kohled eyes and bright attire. Gold jewellery is a characteristic feature of South India and Devasena being a royal couldn't be left behind.
To start off I searched my wardrobe for similar coloured saree and blouse of a matching hue (though it did not match :P) I found this bright hot pink saree with pearl embroidery that I wore for my engagement and the blue kanjivaram blouse is probably the only blue blouse I have!
The second major concern was the jewellery since makeup I knew I had plenty ;) The maangtika is from my wedding. The nath is Maharashtrian nath and I added my own nath's string to it to match the look. I obviously don't have the piercing to wear a septum ring or mookuthi as they call it in south India, so I wore a clip on ear cuff to do justice with the look. The jhumkaas and neckpiece are from my old ethnic jewellery collection.
Now coming to the makeup:

The feature that caught my attention was the heavy kohled eyes and the artistically painted bindi. But since a makeup base is a first step, after moisturizing my skin I applied Colorbar primer followed by Maybelline Fit Me matte n poreless foundation. I applied the Maybelline Fit Me compact only on the under eyes and the sides of the nose which tend to get oily otherwise. Even though the camera isn't catching,I applied The Balm Bahama Mama bronzer and wet n wild blush in pearlescent pink. For the quintessential kohled eyes, I applied a splash of dark brown eyeshadow and lined my upper lash line with the Lakme felt tip eyeliner. I lined my waterline with Lakme Eyeconic kajal and used the Lakme liquid eyeliner for the lower lash line. I applied a mild layer of Maybelline colossal mascara on the eyelashes thinking to wear the falsies later...which I FORGOT :P
For the lips I mixed Lakme 9to5 Rosy Sunday
For the bindi I was pretty purplexed. I searched everything in the house from liquid kumkum to poster colours and I had none.. after searching high and low (yes a BUDGET belleza won't buy stuff for a look..she would just work around what she has :P)
I landed on a liquid lipstick which was way too dark..I mixed some red lipstick (L'oreal Decked in Red) and painted the bindi with a triple 0 paint brush!
That's All folks!!! Hope you will like what I came up with :)
Pray to God I stay motivated to do more stuff :P
I'm praying too :D

Priyanka Chopra INSPIRED makeup look for Fall/Autum

9.12.16 6 Comments
As a makeup enthusiast and a YouTube addict, my favourite category is either swatch videos or recreating celebrity makeup looks. Oh! hoe I love seeing the transformation of one person into another just by the power of makeup. I really find them highly creative rather than the random haul videos. If I am to name a few of my favourite inspired look videos (which are tons off course) I would pick JLo's inpired makeup tutorial by Huda , Kylie Jenner inspired makeup by Roxette Arisa , Penelope Cruz inspired makeup by Makeup By Ani among the the huge talented lots.
Now that we are desi , we wouldn't be able to do justice with an international look given our skin tone, eye colour and hair colour. The reason being just mentioned I earlier decided to do an Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's Cannes inspired makeup look earlier which received so much love from you guys and now I came across this image of our very own Priyanka Chopra when she attended the Marrakech International Film Festival and her net saree and lace blouse became the talk of the town! I've always liked Priyanka's style of dressing even though I don't find her experimenting with her makeup much. She always sticks to her matte makeup base and matte lips , generally playing around earthy tones and nudes. But at this paticular event she turned up in smokey eyes , pink lips and very pronounced pink blusher.
Here's my attempt at recreating it:

And Here's how to achieve it:
Face
For the face, I started with Patanjali Aloevera gel as a primer/pre base. I wanted a clean and covered base thus I used Maybelline Matte and Poreless foundation for it. For my NC30ish skin tone I mixed the shades Sun Beige(310) and Natural Buff(230) to get the correct match. I generally use Real Technique Sponge to apply my foundations and did the same for this look as well. For setting the makeup I used Lotus Herbals Pure Radiance Natural compact in Caramel. Since it wasn't a chiseled out look and not harsh contour or highlight was obvious, I used a very light hand at giving dimension to the face using Kat Von d Shade Light palette. Blush was majorly visible on Priyanka so I used Wet n Wild Pearlescent Pink with a rather heavy hand than I usually do. The blusher itself has shimmers so I skipped using a highlighter altogether.
And this is how it came out!

 Eyes
Priyanka was seen sporting a deep smokey eye for the event and to achieve a similar look I used Bys Eyeshadow mousse as the eye base and then used the shades Custom and Strong from my New Trals Vs Neutrals Palette by Makeup Revolution
For the eyeliner , Maybelline gel liner was put to use and I skipped the falsies and just used Oriflame Giordani Glod masacara to open up the eyes and finish the look.
For the eye brows I used a matte dark brown eyeshadow to fill and shape and brushed it out to avoid too harsh brows.
Lips
Priyanka Chopra is a brand ambassador for matte lips. Even when the whole bollywood was wearing creamy , satiny , glossy lips, Priyanka stuck to her matte nudes...much much before the matte lip trend. In the images above too she is seen wearing deep fuchsia with purple undertones. Lakme Absolute Lip Pout in Magenta Magic was quite close to her shade but it required a slight dash of purple for which I mixed a little bit of Huda Beauty Material Girl.
That's pretty much all that was done to achieve the Priyanka Chopra look!!!

Hope you guys like it :D

Festive Update - Navratri / Durga Pooja Look !!

30.9.16 15 Comments
It's finally achche din for us Indians with festivities beginning. The whole aura is such colour, aroma, flavor, laughter and happiness filled. In any case festivities are all the more harbinger of happiness to a makeup enthusiast when you can finally go all bold-gold without fearing being a disco ball.. Oh Yeah...you CAN be a disco ball with a panache!!
I wanted to leave no opportunity to doll-up since I almost never dare to go with both lips and eyes...yesss!! It either has to be a social gathering or a festival for me to have sparkly dark eyes and a red lip.. I've seen as much as I love makeup, I love underplaying too :) But this time like you see, I enjoyed playing with colours and I'm pretty happy with the outcome specially when compared to my previous Navratri Look.

The product used for the look are as follows:

5 Rules Of Daytime Makeup

18.2.15 13 Comments
Wearing makeup in broad daylight is a tricky game! Most of us do it to cover imperfections and look prettier, more awake, and more presentable for work and life. But picking the wrong colors, formulas, and products to apply can do you a disfavour—making you look harsh, tired, and out of place, instead of the opposite.

Long story short.. Here's what to do:

1. Never skip Sunscreen:

Because of the greasiness that most of the sunscreens impart to our skin,we tend to skip it for a more fresher look. But no matter what you're doing, it's essential to always protect your skin with SPF before applying the rest of your products.
Cheat Sheet: If you are always on the go kinda gal try using the makeup base that has SPF..tadaaaa!!!

2.Let Your Lips Take The Spot-light:
Daytime makeup doesn't always need to be about a sheer lipstick or glossy natural looks. Make the focus of your look a bright lipstick in a cream formula. This will bring light and life to your look and make you stand out in a good way. Choosing a cream formula makes for easy touch ups rather than a matte formula which can get cakey over time.

3. Avoid The Falsies:
We hate to break it to you if you're a falsie addict, but false lashes are just too much for daytime. Instead, curl your lashes and use a good combination of volumizing mascara at the ends and lengthening mascara at the roots.

4. Skip The Heavy Highlight Contour:
The carving out of one's features is too harsh for daytime. Using powders to fake features isn't going to look real. Instead, opt for subtle bronzer and highlighter to give yourself a glow and define your features.

5. Avoid Too Done Up Eyes:
This should well be the first pointer. Since lips have the spot-light, go subtle with the eyes. No stark smokey eye in the day and certainly no pop of colours everywhere on the face!
That's all keep you youthful, fresh and beautiful during the daytime chicas!!!

xoxo

P.S. Except the lip swatches, the images have been googled and I don't claim ownership.

My Top 10 Most Used Makeup Products Of 2014

11.2.15 6 Comments
I know.. I know.. Technically this should have been a December last week or January first week post, but don't forget I'm a mom of a super-desperate-to-walk baby.. So yeah! On my toes!!

I wanted to do a 5 most used beauty products post, but the rest five gave me a cold stare sitting in the stash..rather jumping out of the stash! So presenting the 10 most used (read loved) beauty products of 2014:
(In no particular order)

1. Patanjali Aloevera gel
Multipurpose is it's middle name. Works well as a primer, acne soother, face pack base, depigmentation gel, night treatment, hair pack base. On and on and on....

2. Maybelline dream mouse liquid foundation in creamy natural
Love it. Easy to apply, easy to blend, gives airbrush kinda finish if applied with a stippling brush. No cakeyness no dry patches. C'mon it's just a foundation not your husband, you can't expect more!!!
My go to contour powder. Without you I look like a pumpkin ;)

4. Oriflame giordani gold mascara
The perfect mascara to give those falsies kinda effect. Best I've evaaa come across!

5. Colorbar Peachy Rose Blush
Almost hitting pan. It's peachy pink with a nice sheen. Not matte not shimmery. Apt for every day wear!

6. Faces long wear eyeliner pencils in navy blue and forest green
Epic!!! I'm sold to these!
Pretty peachy nude.. Wear it during the day or pair it up with smoky eyes at night for that sizzling effect!
Efforts of creative eye looks would have gone down the drain if not for this baby!
All those creative eye looks would have gone wasted without this baby..

9. Maybelline Chai latte quad
Total love! Gimme any dress, any occasion, day or night and I can make this work.
Useful tip- The darkest shade in the quad doubles up wonderfully as a brow powder!

10. Makeup brushes
Well, technically these are not products but the rest of the products would be nothing in the absence of makeup tools.
Stippling brush, angled blush/contouring brush, angled eye-shadow brush and eye brow groomer...you guys are my oxygen!

That's it for today beauties....

Maybelline Clear Glow BB stick gives a flawless look but why do I look crappy in pics? Review

9.9.13 17 Comments
Years back when I was freshly out of college,a relative brought me this as a gift from abroad. It was in a navy blue and silver packaging..How I wish I could show you that!!!!
It was similar in size and look but was definitely much more creamy than this..I bit too creamy and that was probably because it had a double core like look..a creamy core I guess! If I can recall correctly,it was named as Maybelline foundation stick.
Fast forward to 2013---------------------->we have our own Maybelline Clear Glow BB Stick :)

Expert Tips On How to apply BB Stick
  • Swipe BB Stick on your forehead, nose, cheeks and chin.
  • Blend in an outward direction towards hairline and jawline using quick, short strokes.
  • Finally, you could also apply a little Kajal and Lip Balm for a great natural look.
 Ingredients:

Price/Quantity: INR 250/10gm

Shades:
In India, only two shades are launched as yet:
  • Radiance (01)
  • Fawn (04)
 Packaging:

Well this seems to be the best part of the whole story... the packaging! It comes in a twist-up stick form and looks like a huge Lipstick. I like how compact it looks. You can throw it in your handbag and you are good to go. Its not messy at all and can be applied straight on the face and blend it with fingers. The good thing is that it has the Mfg date on the primary packaging unlike other products which have it on the outer carton (which gets thrown out anyway). Its cute and travel friendly!

My Take:
The much hyped and most talked about product (partly because the PRs were generous enough, specially with the shade fawn) of the year,Maybelline Clear Glow BB Stick has found its way in almost everybody's kitty. Its good to see and easy to carry along. Its not too demanding a product in terms of usage..no brush,no sponge! Just squiggle a few lines on your face and blend it out well. It provides medium coverage..something that you would like on yourself on a daily basis..It evens out the skin tone  pretty well and in case one needs to cover some stubborn spots, one can build it up. I even use it often as a concealer for my undereyes..and it works well :)
The good part over....now the baddies :/
Dry skinned beauties will need some skin hydration before applying it specially in cooler months. Though the Maybelline Clear Glow BB Stick cannot be called dry,I still need something beneath it to make blending easy. Secondly, it doesn't photograph well. All my pics looked ashy when I had this on,I guess the SPF is to be blamed for this con...So girls,if you think someone's gonna set their apertures on you better not go with this on!

My Likes:
1. Brightens face.
2. Evens out the complexion.
3. Hides minor undereyes and pigmentation.
4. Can be built upon for more coverage.
5. Blending isn't a big deal.
6. Cute Packaging.
7. Travel Friendly.
8. Doesn't require brush or sponge.
9. Affordable.
10.Manufacturing date on the bullet sticker and not just on the outer plastic (which gets thrown in any case)
11. Neither too creamy(gooey) nor too hard.
12. Easily available.

My Dislikes:
1. I want something hydrating beneath this for proper blending.
2. It doesn't photograph well, blame the SPF :(
3. The brand proved to be miser with their shade selection..I personally fall somewhere between Radiance and Fawn (FYI,I'm NC 35ish)

Last Word:
Its a wonderful product,Gives medium coverage and can be built upon. Its a boon for college and office goers given its ease of application and storage. Has SPF and is affordable.

Repurchase:
Yes Yes Yes!!!

Over All Rating: 4.5/5
