Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in Porcelain Party 102 : Review, Price Swatches and NOTD

15.9.16 0 Comments

Now that Fall is just around the corner, I'm trying to use my spring stuff a bit before it gets pushed back in the stash even though I admit that this was perhaps the first year when my spring was too fall inspired (deep lip shades in summers were a strict no-no earlier...but now? Baaaahhhhhh!!!!) This summer I wore everything from bold lips to deep nails, I dunno just craved for all things bold and the consequence was..the summery stuff sat pretty waiting for its turn to be flaunted.
Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in Porcelain Party was one such summery beachy buy. There's something about white nail paints that reminds me of beaches and washed out denims and just for that cool breeze-feel I got myself a white nail paint after aaaaaaages...!!

What It Is :
With trendy, super stylish shades, these nail colors add oodles of attitude to your overall look. Presenting 40 attractive shades, the Maybelline Color Show Range let’s you mix, match and experiment with color!

Benefits:
Nail colors have a gel-based formula for increased staying power
• Is chip-resistant and comes with an easy-flow brush
• Available in 40 different shades

How To Use/Apply:
Step 1. Apply a clear base coat to help prevent your nails from yellowing and to extend the life of your nail polish color.
Step 2. Brush one coat of lacquer from the center of your nail starting from the base to the tip.
Step 3. For the cleanest look, leave a small space at the base of the nail, then apply polish to the rest of the nail.

Price: INR 110/6ml (initially 75/-)

Packaging:
It comes in a regular round, glass, Color Show bottle with the shade name and number on the cap. The bottle is nice, cute and travel friendly. However, I'm not a big fan of the brush. The brush is responsible for its streaky application (and the formula could be as well). I've noticed its not with every Color Show nail polish. The other shades I own from the same range have a decent brush too (I just love the brush of Lakme Gel Stylist nail paints though, they are fluffy enough to paint your nail in just one coat...aaahh)

Texture:
The texture is nothing to boast about. I didn't like it at all.You don't get nice, smooth and opaque finish even in 2-3 coats. God knows how I managed to take decent pics in which I have 3 coats plus an additional touch up one finished with a top coat. Though it dries fast, It is very streaky..Period!

Shade:
THIS was the reason why I gave it a shot. I have been wanting to try a China Glaze White Out/White On White, Sally Hansen White On, O.P.I Alpine Snow/Non-Stop White etc. but when I came across this in a store I though let's try a budget version just to see how white looks on me..I have no problem with the shade though but the Nail polish is disappointing.

Staying Power:
Another disappointment!! Even after putting so much effort to get a clean finish..Porcelain Party gets scratchy and dirty on the very third day. It looks so tacky that you wouldn't have it on even if it doesn't start chipping..and no my hands weren't put to much labour..still!!

My Take:
I would not recommend Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in Porcelain Party even though the white is a nice white simply because of the its finish and longevity as discussed above.
Sad??? No, I'll give the ones in my wishlist a try now :D

Giordani Gold Lipstick in Eternal Red: Price,Review,Swatches and LOTD

3.8.15 8 Comments
There are certain things you are in awe of as soon as you encounter them. The beauty takes over your senses and you are left dumbstruck. Such was the beauty of the Giordano Gold lipstick in Eternal Red. To start off.. I'm a simpleton!! If the product justifies its price and comes in a practical packaging, I'm generally sorted. But a packaging like this takes me from sorted to sold..!!!!
Company Claims:
Cashmere-soft lipstick featuring a powerful blend of moisturizers for beautifully conditioned and hydrated lips all day. Intense colour in classical shades with a lusciously creamy finish and medium coverage that lasts for hours. Presented in an exquisite golden designer case, this is the true jewel of your handbag.

Price/Quantity: INR 749/4gm

Packaging:

I can write a whole post on just the BEAUTIFUL packaging of it. It comes in a round metallic golden case, the bottom of which has a carving sort of details on it. Even though the size of it looks small, it is heavy for a lipstick. The one end of the bullet case has the brand logo engraved and the other end has the shade name and details. It locks pretty well! There is a thing with round lipstick packagings, that they go on rolling once places on a flat surface, this irks me at times. But none the less, Giordano Gold lipsticks win hands down in the packaging department! Its LUXURIOUS!

Shade:
Eternal Red is a tricky shade to capture on camera and since I wanted to show you the difference in the appearance of the shade in different lightings, it became a TASK. Even after umpteen attempts the shade looks entirely different in outdoors clicks from the ones clicked indoors with flash.

Still I would say judge the shade from the daylight image coz that is closest to the real shade.
Eternal Red is a warm tomato red with hints of maroon !!

Not my kinda Red!

Texture:
All you matte lippy lovers out therrrrrrrre...!!! You can stop reading the post NOW because this is a super glossy lipstick in a gold case! I have dry skin..dry lips...and I would like to call this lipstick a highly pigmented lip balm!!! Yes its that hydrating and when it wears off it leaves behind supple juicy lips. But ahaaan!!don't forget lippies like these are first to melt in your stash..fridge is her home!

Pigmentation:
Here is where the story takes a twist. Sold over the packaging...gaga over the hydration and pigmentation is a BUMMER! Its pretty sheer in the first swipe but then its buildable.

Staying Power:
Pretty low :(
I didn't even get a chance to check if it survives a meal..A cup of latte and it was gone. Hardly two hrs it stayed put.
Need I say more?

Oh Yes! Even I read the online claims of beautiful tint left behind.. I didn't :(

The Good :
  • Luxurious Packaging
  • Super hydrating
The Bad:
  • Bad staying power.
  • I dig for velvet mattes so this lip balmy hydrating isn't me.
  • Melts in summers.
  • Has an over-powering lipsticky smell..you know the artificiality...
  • Feels more like a gloss than a lipstick.
  • Expensive! More-so, when I notice a price rise every year.

Over All Rating: 2/5 (for a highly tinted lip balm of 749/- ;)

Maybelline Colorama Nail Paint in Coral Chic: Review,Swatches and NOTD

11.9.14 7 Comments
Maybelline always being a budget brand has such a plethora of products to offer catering to different needs of beauty. One such product was their Colorama range of nail paints which has been very obviously over shadowed by their new Colorshow range...for all good reasons though..I do own own a few of these and today's review is of Maybelline Colorama Nail Paint in Coral Chic.

Product Information: (Website description)
Make every color wish a reality with our collection of vibrant nail colors.
Express Finish Quick Dry Nail Color – Wet to Set in 40 Seconds
Why you’ll Love It
High-gloss nail color with 5 day wear!
Combine a visually stunning palette of pigments, pearls and glitters
It’s the ultimate accessory that transforms your look from day to night, fun to funky and classic to daring…in a flash!

Directions for Use:
1. With one sweep, paint the first line of nail polish up the center of your nail starting from the base to the tip.
2. For the cleanest look, be sure to leave a small space at the base of the nail.
3. Then apply color to the rest of the nail with additional sweeps of polish on each side of the original line.
4. Let your nails dry before applying a second coat.

Price/Quantity: INR 100/8ml

My Experience:
Maybelline Colorama Nail Paints  come in a flat glass bottle with a white cap.The shade name is mentioned on the bottle itself. The applicator is easy to hold and the brush is good enough to give a non-streaky smooth finish.
Coming to the shade...now coral is one of the most talked about shade for the past 2-3 years. Each one of us has something in Coral in our wardrobe or vanity,so why leave the nail paint behind. Coral Chic is a very beautiful coral colour with very very fine gold shimmers..Perfect for this summer!!!!
What disappoints me is the poor pigmentation of this nail paint. The opacity shown in the pic above has been achieved after 4 meticulous coats....Yeah Its that sheer!!! And Yeah who the hell has that much patience :/
The wear time isn't impressive either. Even after so many coats,it doesn't last even three days without chipping. I can't even thing of applying Colorama nail paints without a top coat!

My Likes:

  • Affordable...but then colorshow ones are cheaper and way better!
  • Variety of shades to choose from.
  • Coral Chic is a beautiful coral shade.
  • Applicator and brush is good.
My Dislikes:
  • Very poor pigmentation...too sheer!
  • Poor staying power without a top coat.
Last Word:
Though I love the colour, the number of coats required to  get the desired colour..i.e. what you see in the bottle drives me crazy :/

Repurchase: Hell No!!!

Nail Of The Week- Avon Speed Dry+ Nail Enamel in Twilight Blue:Review Swatches NOTW

24.7.13 12 Comments
Here is another NOTW and this time its from the Speed Dry range of Avon.
Check it out:
Company Claims:
  • New improved formula with Flash Dry Technology.
  • Provides full and even coverage and high shine.
  • Stays colour true and resists dulling.
Price/Quantity: INR 165/8ml (almost always on offer though)

Packaging:

Avon Speed Dry+ nail enamels come in square glass bottles with a black screw cap.I like their square shape and more than that I like that the shade names are printed on the bottle itself rather than a cap sticker. All in all good packaging.

Shade: Twilight Blue
Twilight Blue is a deep dark blue with shimmers !!

My Take:
This is not a recent purchase. I picked this up about one and a half year ago. The shade was obviously the reason behind..it a very deep blue almost leaning towards black. The texture is not smooth, the brush screechy and the staying power crappy :/

My Likes:
1. Nice shade..makes my hand look neat!
2. Comes cheap on offer.
3. Like the glass bottle shape.
4. They have names..and that too names printed on the bottle itself!

My Dislikes:
1. Starts chipping withing 24hrs.
2. Brush is screechy.
3. The formula isn't smooth

Last Word:
No matter how affordable a nail paint is and what all wonderful shades it has to offer..I still expect it to perform its basic task i.e. applying smoothly and staying long, which this product doesn't seem to do!

Repurchase:
Never a nail paint that doesn't stay for even a day...oh its rhyming :)

Avon Smooth and White Pressed Powder SPF 14: Review

10.6.13 5 Comments
I have a love hate kinda relationship with Avon. I often make faces about some of their products and yet I'm eagerly waiting for their new online catalogs. Today's product is from their simply pretty range,Its the Smooth and White Pressed Powder.
Company Claims:
Look naturally fair and fresh all day !
  • Contains Licorice extract to help lighten skin and SPF 14 UVA/UVB protects to prevent skin darkening n sun damage
  • Ultra absorbing, micro-powders blend evenly and smoothly for that fresh feeling
  • Oil-free, Dermatologist-tested, Clinically tested, Non-comedogenic n Non-acnegenic
Price vs Quantity: INR 249/10gm

Shades:
  • Almond
  • Soft Bisque
  • Golden Beige
  • Natural
My Take:
To start off, I'm not a big fan of compacts/pressed powders because they are actually not a pleasure to my dry skin. But given to the humid weather I do need to touch up the t-zone. Its available in 4shades and I have the one in Soft Bisque. Avon Smooth and White Pressed Powder comes in a a cute and sturdy baby pink packaging with a mirror and a powder puff. The texture of the powder is nothing to boast about...Its dry and powdery and chalky and makes me look patchy :(
I'm yet not able to figure out as to why this product is a totally dud for me when I come across positive reviews of it. Could be the shade Soft Bisque is too light on me (NC 35ish)
But the formula isn't anywhere close to...smooooth :/
My Likes:
1. Cute Packaging.
2. Sturdy... Travel friendly
3. Comes with a mirror and powder puff.
4. Light on pocket when on discount.
5. Has SPF 14.

My Dislikes:
1. The shade (soft Bisque) is light on me.
2. The texture is not smooth.
3. Doesn't spread easily.
4. Leaves a patchy finish.
5. Doesn't photograph well.
6. Very Chalky.
7. Avon misunderstands shine-free with dry :/
8. Images on the catalog are not colour-true
9. You need an Avon Rep to get this.

Last Word:
Though light on pocket is heavy on face :/
I'm using the existing one on my neck :(

Repurchase:
Hell...NO

Over All Rating: 2/5 (2 for good packaging,else...)
