Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick in Verve : Review and Swatches

My search for "that" nude lippy with "peachy" undertones has seen me buy everything and anything that came even a bit closer to it. And one of those purchases was Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick in Verve.

Company Claims:
For a rich lip colour with a creamy shine, the Velvett Matte Lipstick, available in stunning shades infuse the lips with vibrancy. Its unique 2-in-1 formulation gives the lips a creamy, yet matte finish. A one of a kind product in India, it has super softening agents that give the lips a soft and supple appearance while keep them nourished with Vitamin E. Staying on up to 5 hours on application, the Velvett Matte Lipstick can be further accentuated with lip gloss and lip liner.

Price/Quantity: INR 275/ 4.2gm

Packaging:
It comes in the regular silver looking plastic case with a color coded end. The cap though not very sturdy click locks to make it safe.
The shade name is mentioned on the color coded end.

Shade: Verve 39BR
I dunno what went in my head when I bought this. To begin with I'm not a big fan of browns...specially a BROWN brown,the kinds that has no pink/peach/red undertone.... reason??? 
They make me look dull,plus they have this amazing ability to add another 5 years to my face :P
And this Colorbar Velvet Matte Lipstick in Verve is a solid brown.

Texture: 
This is where this one scores.. it isn't quite like other velvet mattes that I have. Its creamy on application needs no tugging/stretching . This I guess is pretty much the reason why it doesn't even look matte on lips. The finish comes off like those of Maybelline colour sensational lipsticks,but with a better staying power.

Staying Power:
Well talking of staying power,this one doesn't stay on till eternity like my other velvet matte ones,the reason being its not so drying matte either. It stays for a good 4hrs. 

My Take:


Its a regular brown lippy apt for that corporate look. It will suit all skintones. The first lip swatch was taken in daylight while the next one is taken indoors. The daylight one is closer to what it actually looks like. By the images themselves you can make out its creamy and not supper matte like its siblings from the same range.

  • Its cheap.
  • Colour coded packaging..easy to locate.
  • Isn't drying.
  • Good for office goers.
  • Decent staying power.
  • Doesn't melt in summers.
  • Well pigmented.
  • Click locks.
  • The range has many shades to choose from.
My Dislikes:
  • The shade..its a boring brown.
  • The smell..too artificial and too overwhelming.
Last Word:
Good colour pay off and texture for the price but the shade is a bit too sober for me..

Repurchase: Nopes!!!

Over All rating: 3/5 ( just coz I'm not a brown lippy fan)

What to do when you buy powder/compacts darker than your skin tone? Savvy by DB !

Well there are times when you get certain cosmetics as gifts and then you spend a great amount of energy in finding a perfect use to it. Though it happens rarely with me,but when it does.....this is what happens!!!
I got this Savvy Pressed Powder in dark as a gift from Australia,the shade being way to dark than my skin....read on to know how I made it work for me:

Product Description:
Savvy by DB is an Australian brand and is available at Priceline. Though the packaging says its made in China. Visit the link to know more. 

 Packaging:
It comes in a deep plum,round,plastic case. The see-through sttached lid has the brand name. The pan is sturdy enough and the lid click locks. Is comes without a mirror/brush. 

 Shade,Ingredients and Weight:
This is the issue...since it was a gift,the exact matching shade wasn't even expected. But this was at-least 2-3shades darker than my skin tone. Applying it all over my face makes me look sun burnt :(

How I Made it Work for Me:
The shade being darker like I just said made me look sun-burnt instead of sun-kissed ;)
But the formula and staying power tempted me to use it. So I thought it would be best if I used it as a bronzer instead of powder. This being matte does full justice as a bronzer and is perfect for the day time when you want to look a bit chiseled without being OTT. I wore this in my No-Makeup Look Post,and this is how it looked on me!
Sorry for not posting a new pic..I somehow didn't feel like doing FOTDs..will compensate this with something else in the upcoming posts :)
